Over 60 booked for damaging dam

The local police registered a case against one Rocky,a resident of Kutti, and 60 unidentified people.

The local police registered a case against one Rocky,a resident of Kutti, and 60 unidentified people on Saturday night after he allegedly tried to cause a breach in a dam constructed on the Lasara drain that has been overflowing, causing panic in Kutti,Pathrala and adjoining villages.

Sangat SHO Sandeep Singh said Rocky worked in the Army and was at large. “We have booked 60 others who are being identified with the help of video footage of the incident available with us. Rocky also injured a policeman while trying to cause damage to the dam by hitting it with his motorcycle,” he added.

The Lasara drain used to extend up to Haryana earlier, but the Haryana government had de-notified the land through which it passed. Consequently,a dam has been made. The rising water due to this has put villagers on Punjab side in danger. The district administration has been on its toes to prevent any untoward incident. Efforts were made to maintain the optimum water level with the help of as many as 10 water pipes being used as controlled outlets of the rising water level.

Bathinda SDM K P S Mahi, who visited the site on Sunday, said the water level in the drain had substantially receded and the situation was returning to normal.
