Son Sunny has shaken and stirred quite a sansani. And this has put Big 92.7 in a pretty big trouble. Didn’t anyone tell them ‘Don’t mess with the Deols!’ In fact, not very long back,a very touchy Hema Malini walked out of a reality show – she was disgusted with the spoof on Sholay. Someone tells the truth, and the world pounces on him. Jungal main Mangal was too much to handle. While Sach Ka Samna has now the makings of a potboiler, the reality of others is ‘marching out of maryada’ and we’re all living up to the showman’s line – ‘entertainment le liye kucch bhi karega’. Sue bhi.

Flash forward to B-Town,and while Daddy Deol is too mad to make any comment,Sunny boy’s served a legal notice to the FM radio station for allegedly defaming him and his family through a show ‘Son Sunny’,claiming Rs 200 crore from them in the process. “It was bad mimicry, cheap and vulgar, and I strongly abhor such practise,” says Sunny. Humour is not supposed to be made at the cost of others,he says. “You appreciate it to a certain level, but if it hits below the belt,if it’s derogatory, then we will take action,” he states, with full support from Manoj Kumar and Dev Anand. FYI: Kumar had sued the makers of Om Shanti Om,and Shah Rukh Khan had issued a personal apology to take the case back. “In an order, some scenes were also directed to be deleted by the Bombay City Court,” tells Manoj, adding how the young generation should know how to respect their seniors. “We also had humour in our times, and appreciated it too,but such programmes should be banned,” says Dev.

Hmmm, now that this has taken place,we got interested and sniffed open some recent cases, and it seemed like ‘sue you’ is the new you-know-what word. Let’s see: Just before the release of Love Aaj Kal,Saif Ali Khan had to issue a written apology to The Punjab Cultural and Heritage Board, who were angered by his close cropped beard. C’mon, seriously! While Akshay Kumar and Sunny Deol have been put through this much before, going by the falling tolerance levels,we are patiently waiting for reactions to Rani as a Sardar in Hadippa. In the meantime,Vishal Bhardwaj is tackling with the censor board over Kaminey. Guess it’s the colourful title that’s attracted the censor.

Be it a simple game of truth,a revealing dress (Mallika Sherwat had a tough time clinging on to it!) or an ‘objectionable’ act (whose definition is under construction),the angry Indian janta (and celebrity) is in an attack mode, and on a suing spree. Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt, for one, have been accused of causing communal tension. Music director Pritam was (is always) accused of plagiarism. City’s Burning Brain Society didn’t waste time and slapped a notice on Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan for smoking in public. Offended by Twinkle’s ‘flying’ favour on the ramp with Akshay,a social activist sued them for this ‘obscenity’! Of all the people,Richard Gere was served an arrest warrant for kissing Shilpa Shetty! Reminds us of Shabana Azmi and Nelson Mandela days, and how can we forget Bipasha Basu and Christiano Ronaldo?

Now that we are on a roll,it all unspools with Pooja Bhatt’s birthday suit – remember the ‘body’ suit? Or Amisha Patel in a first of suing her parents for embezzlement and mismanagement of her funds. Singer Neha almost lost her career when she dragged Sohail Khan to court for not including her name in the film’s credits. Ness Wadia ran into trouble with the cops in Chandigarh during IPL. Aishwarya,Saif and Akshay have already warned gossip-mongers. Even Big B has had his share of tax troubles, land locks and Jaya’s ‘bol bachan’!

I guess the smart one has been Karan Johar. Before trouble comes knocking, the man’s quietly acquired the rights of Stepmom. For him,sue is short for Susan. And if you really want to sue someone, then why not begin with a corrupt politician or regressive Hindi serials,or the failing system? Else, like Akshay Kumar said to Rajeev Masand: it’s entertainment,we’re not supposed to take it seriously!
