After Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhlaa Ja,what attracted you to another dance show Nachleve?
Nachleve on Imagine TV includes household names from the television industry who are taught the dance and then made to compete with each other. The concept of the show was new to me and this excited me. My role is to choose winners every week and they will compete again in the grand finale.
You are co-judging the show with Saroj Khan. What makes her the best?
There are a number of reasons why Saroj ji is the best at her job. Her body of work is huge and she has she has choreographed an amazing mix of dances. From a Dola re in Devdas to Yeh Ishq Hayye in Jab We Met,she has explored every form of dance. She is also a hard task master and brings out the best in an actor when it comes to dance.
Did you always want to be a dancer? Who is your inspiration?
I have always loved dancing from a very young age but I had never decided to be a dancer. Dancing came to me and I accepted it. I love dancing and that is the only way to allow your emotions to be expressed in the right way. My inspiration have always been Helen ji and Madhuri Dixit.
Now that you have made item numbers classy, would you rather it still be called a item number?
I think these are just tags given by the media and we being public property, cannot say much, but only nod and accept everything they say.
How do you choose your numbers?
The tune of the song is extremely important. So is the choreographer, the set-up of the song and the style of dancing required for the dance. Mostly, its my gut feeling that tells me whether I should do a particular song or not.
You are doing a cameo in Housefull 2. Will you also be doing an item number in the film?
I am doing a dance number called Anarkali Chali Disco. I am considered a lucky mascot by Sajid Khan. It is always a pleasure doing a number for him.
How are Arbaaz Khan and you coping with being producers?
As a producer,I think we are still learning the process. Hopefully,we will get there very soon. However, after Dabangg,we are more prepared and confident. Arbaaz is also going to be directing Dabangg 2. So,the challenges are bigger and expectations are higher.
How do you stay fit?
I eat right and exercise regularly.
In March this year, you led a team of dancers in Melbourne. What was that about?
The concept of this was to have flash mobs and every dancer was to dance for three minutes continuously on a song selected by them. It was a wonderful experience.
