Mohali police fail to arrest kingpin,cop in extortion racket

The CIA has given up the custody of the two arrested. A CIA official told Newsline they did not seek further custody of Ruby and Gurmeet while presenting them before a local court after expiry of their two-day police remand. The court has sent the two to 14-day judicial custody.

Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said they have tied up with their Fatehgarh Sahib counterparts to ensure early arrest of the wanted ASI.

“Earlier,he was on leave and now absent from duty,” confirmed Bhullar. Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Ranbir Singh Khatra said he has asked his men to immediately locate the wanted cop and hand him over to Mohali police. “Though the direct control of wireless staffers was with the computer and wireless wing of Punjab Police,we will still recommend necessary action against him,” added Khatra.

Acting on a tip-off,a police party raided a hotel in Phase I and arrested two persons of the gang. The two — Ruby and Gurmee—¿ were waiting for customers outside the hotel. While the woman attended the customer,Gurmeet accompanied the cop and pretended to raid the hotel and extort money from the customer.
