UP in arms against the worst-ever power crisis in the state, which has forced industries to remain closed for three days in a week, the industrialists of Mohali on Monday took to the streets to protest against the move of the government.

Already hit hard by the global economic slowdown, the owners and workers of around 1,200 industrial units took out a massive protest march to press the government and Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) authorities to save the local industry from collapsing.

Under the banner of Mohali Industries Association (MIA),the march began from MIA Bhawan in Industrial Area,Phase VII,and passed through Phase V,Phase 3B2 and PTL Chowk before culminating in front of the district administrative complex in Phase I here.

Addressing the rally,MIA president B S Anand said: “It is a pity that PSEB sold power to other states at much higher rates, but when Punjab needs electricity, they are not willing to buy back power due to high costs.”

A delegation led by Anand also submitted a memorandum to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal through Deputy Commissioner P S Mand and the PSEB chairman through Superintending Engineer M L Garg.

Mand assured the protestors to take up the matter with the chief minister for a solution of the problem.
