Meet held on AIDS & population

Young Women Christian Association (YWCA)celebrated World Population Day on the theme “Population and AIDS- A commitment towards the social cause”on July 12-13.

Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) celebrated World Population Day on the theme “Population and AIDS- A commitment towards the social cause”on July 12-13. Thirty women participated in the panel discussion.

Social Activist and Associate Professor at Panjab University Renu Gandhi said that there is a need to discuss the population related issues with the community with particular reference to the theme “Reproductive rights of Women” and HIV /AIDS. “These are the areas where the proper education should be provided to women so that they can take healthy decisions to choose the right family size and check the population growth,” she said.

Dr Avnish Jolly,physician and an AIDS activist discussed the causes related to HIV/AIDS. “The youth of today have to generate life skills among themselves like self – awareness,problem solving,creative thinking and management of stress and emotional stability for getting of the culture of trivialisation,” he emphasised.
