MC committee to look into hiring consultancy for solid waste management

The Municipal Corporation will constitute a committee to review the proposal for hiring a consultancy to suggest ways for solid waste management in the city.

The Municipal Corporation will constitute a committee to review the proposal for hiring a consultancy to suggest ways for solid waste management in the city. A proposal pertaining to the issue was mooted recently and presented in the meeting of the general house. It was decided that there was a need to review the proposal for which a committee should be constituted.

It was proposed that experts from NEERI (National Environment Engineering Research Institute),Nagpur be given the contract for conducting the study. According to the proposal,the study will be conducted in three phases. The cost entailed in the first phase will be Rs 52 lakh and in the second phase Rs 6 lakh.

Phase I will deal with developing the overall plan for the management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated in the city. It will include technical specifications for the selected technological options for incorporation into tender documents. Phase II will deal with assistance to the MC in evaluation of tender documents,while Phase III will deal with performance evaluation of the implemented technological options after successful commissioning by the contender.

An audit of the existing garbage processing plan of Jaypee Associates who are managing the Garbage Processing Plant will be done.

Some councillors,past and present,however raised objections to the same,stating that a similar study was conducted prior to setting up the Garbage Processing Plant. It was decided that a committee would be constituted for discussion on the issue. Three officials and two councillors and the Mayor had gone to Nagpur recently for holding a discussion with officials of NEERI on the issue. They will be part of the committee along with some others.
