Mauled by leopard,2-yr-old dies

A two-year-old child was mauled and killed by a leopard in Nankhari area of Rampur tehsil in Shimla district on Tuesday night.

Reshma Devi was walking in the courtyard of her house around 7.30 pm with her child in her arms when the leopard snatched the infant and fled. The police later found a portion of the childs body about 250 metres away from the house. The village under Kungal Balti panchayat is surrounded by dense forests and the incident has spread panic in the area. Forest Range Officer,Nankhari,Gurcharan Singh Kuthaila said: We are assessing the cause of attack before declaring the leopard a maneater. Till we ascertain that the purpose of attack,we will not be able to take a decision on trapping the animal. I have informed senior officials of the department.
