It was on Friday evening that the leopard was first spotted in the basement of a house, by some labourers who were carrying out construction there. Before it could be rescued, the animal jumped the boundary wall of the home and entered the verandah of a neighbouring house.
Vyara Veterinary officer Dr Pankaj Fuletra said, “The leopard died around four days ago. It is suspected that it died due to drowning. We found water in its abdomen. It might have come to the bank to drink water and was washed away.”
The woman, a resident of Bhanawadi village in Vyara Taluka of Tapi district, was going to see a doctor in Vyara town with her son-in-law. After reaching the clinic, Devsingh made her sit on a bench while he went to take some documents.
"The animal has been confined in a room in the court building, the doors of which have been bolted. A rescue team has arrived. We are waiting for traquiliser gun after which it will be tranquilised it and rescued," said the deputy conservator of forest
