In a major breakthrough,the Mohali district police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a plan of the Maoist organisations to conduct a major terror strike in Punjab,with the arrest of a hardcore Maoist who was entrusted the task spreading Maoist movement and hold major terror strike in the state.
Harbhinder Singh alias Jalal of Jalal village in Bathinda district was arrested with a sophisticated .32 bore revolver loaded with live cartridges,some reading material,which the police claimed was aimed at instigating the innocent minds and a fake voter identity card.
Besides,several filled and blank forms to enroll people with the Maoist organisation were also recovered from his possession,the police disclosed. Even as Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar remained tight-lipped over the case and only kept saying till late evening that,What all we want to share with you as of now will be revealed in a press release being issued shortly.
Later,an official release divulged that the Maoist was traveling in a bus from Ludhiana to Chandigarh and on a tip-off,Kharar DSP Sukhdev Singh Virk led a police party to intercept the bus at Gharuan bus stand on Kharar-Ludhiana National Highway-95 around 8.30 am. On search,the suspect was found possessing documents of a Maoist organisation besides arm and ammunition,following which he was taken into custody, revealed the release.
The police have slapped Sections 10,13,18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act,1967,Sections 25,54 and 59 of the Arms Act and Section 121 of the IPC against the Maoist,who was put under sustained interrogation.
Meanwhile,a Kharar court remanded Jalal to five-day police custody for facilitating his custodial interrogation to establish his links and modus operandi.
500 on rolls
So far,the Maoist had enrolled almost 500 people,mostly youths,from different parts of the state,with his Maoist organisation and was on way to Chandigarh for further enrollments. Till recently,he was publishing a magazine. We have sent the details of the enrolled people to their respective district police heads for verification and further action, revealed a Mohali police official,while hoping for more arrests and recoveries in near future.
