Manimajra gets seventh govt school,proposal to build college announced

Adding to the six government schools in Manimjara,KK Sharma,Chandigarh Administrator,inaugurated a new Government Middle School in Pocket 10 on Thursday.

Built at an estimate of Rs 3 crore,the school is constructed over an area of 1 acre with a three-storey building providing for 17 rooms,including 14 classrooms,a staffroom,a music room,a principal’s room and a canteen that will serve as a mid-day meal room. 750 students from the nearby school in a Zila Samiti have been shifted to the new school.

DPI (S) Kamlesh Kumar told Chandigarh Newsline,“Construction going on in another government primary school in Pocket 6,Manimajra will also be completed in another two months. It will be the eighth school in the area.”

Meanwhile,education secretary V K Singh said,“This is the seventh school to be inaugurated out of the 20 planned schools in the city’s periphery areas. Work on another 15 schools is in progress and they will be inaugurated in the coming one year. In the second phase,the administration has selected sites for six more schools and work on the same will begin at an appropriate time. Also,five or six more schools will be converted into smart schools in the near future.”

Talking about improving the student-teacher ratio,Singh added that a proposal to create over 3,000 posts for teachers has already been sent to the concerned ministry and a reply was awaited.

Also,the Chandigarh Administrator announced during the event that it was planning to build a college in Manimajra.

“The proposal has been approved in principle and the project is now at the stage of discussion where the detailing of the infrastructure is being done,” Sharma said.

The college would not only focus on traditional education but also on increasing the employability of students through vocational education,” he added.
