Man shot at near PGI,stable

A peon working at the Punjab and Haryana High Court sustained injuries when three assailants fired at him on Sunday night.

A peon working at the Punjab and Haryana High Court sustained injuries when three assailants fired at him on Sunday night. He was returning home from work when the incident occurred inside the PGI residential complex. The victim’s father works as a cook in the PGI.

The police have registered a case of attempt to murder, but said they were verifying the facts stated in the complaint as there was no eyewitness to the incident. According to the complaint, the three unidentified motorcyclists were chasing Sanju (24),who was in another motorcycle, from Sector 24 and caught up with him after he had entered the complex. He said they fired a shot at him and sped away.

The bullet hit Sanju on his shoulder. He was rushed to PGI where his condition is stated to be stable.

The victim’s family told the police that a Ludhiana resident, who had filed a case of kidnapping against Sanju, was behind the incident.

The police said they got the spot examined by forensic experts, dog squad and anti-sabotage squad but could not recover the bullet shell. Surprisingly,an officer said, the assailants intercepted him only after he had entered the PGI residential complex, where private security is deployed and the movement of people was considerably higher than outside.

Sector 11 police station SHO Inspector Sukhbir Rana said the case was registered on the complaint of Sanju’s father Jagbir Singh.

The police said Sanju had an affair with a girl living in the same complex and her family was against the match, due to which the two eloped last year. Her family lodged a case of kidnapping against him at the Sector 17 police station and the case is pending trial. The matter is sub judice and the girl’s Ludhiana-based brother-in-law Hemant is pursuing the case.
