(File Photo)In a shocking incident, the Sohana police has arrested three accused for the murder of a man by his own brother following a minor domestic dispute. The accused later attempted to destroy evidence by setting the body on fire in an isolated area, but the partially burnt corpse was spotted by a passerby, triggering a police investigation.
Sohana SHO Sunil Kumar said that the arrested accused have been identified as Sukhveer Singh, a resident of Sohana village, along with his associates Gagandeep Singh, alias Gaggu, a resident of Amb Sahib Colony, Phase 11, Mohali, and Baljot Singh, alias Laddi, a resident of Phase 11, Mohali.
“Based on the statement of Sandeep Singh, a case was registered at Sohana police station under sections 103(1), 238 and 3(5) of the BNS,” the SHO said.
All three accused were produced before a district court, which remanded them in two days of police custody.
The SHO said that on December 15, the police received information from the control room about an unidentified body lying near the railway track close to Durali village. “The body was partially burnt. It was taken into custody and an investigation was initiated. Initially, a murder case against unknown persons was registered,” he said.
During the investigation, the police discovered that Sukhveer Singh and his brother Gurdeep Singh were frequently involved in domestic disputes. On the day of the incident, an argument broke out over loud music. Enraged, Sukhveer allegedly called his associates to the spot and “struck Gurdeep Singh on the head with a wooden log, killing him on the spot”, the SHO added.
To conceal the crime, the accused transported the body to a secluded area near the railway line at Durali village and set it on fire before fleeing. However, the body was not completely burnt, leading to the detection of crime.
Police first arrested Sukhveer Singh, who confessed to killing his brother with the help of his associates. The co-accused were named and arrested on December 15. “The accused are currently on police remand, and recovery of the wooden log used in the crime is yet to be made,” the SHO said.
