Man gets life sentence for murder

A lower court today awarded life imprisonment to a Mohali resident for killing his mother-in-law of his daughter.

Ved Prakash,who has been awarded life imprisonment,stabbed his daughter’s mother-in-law as he was upset with the harassment meted out to her daughter. The case dates back to April 2010. As per the prosecution,the incident occurred around 11.30 pm on April 7,2010,when 52-year-old Ved Prakash,a resident of Mohali phase 2,stabbed 55-year-old Nirmala Devi Babbar at her residence in Sector 55,Chandigarh.

Prakash’s daughter had come to her parent’s house on April 4,2010 following an altercation with her mother-in-law and husband Ravi Babbar. Seeing his daughter at home,Prakash went to Babbar’s place to confront the latter.

As per the prosecution,during the verbal altercation Nirmala Devi also came out and Prakash,who was carrying a knife with him stabbed her. She was rushed to hospital where she had died.
