On Thursday, after a verbal altercation broke out between the two brothers, Jaswant took a sword and attacked Sukhjit. (file) A man died after he was allegedly stabbed nine to 10 times by his younger brother with a sword at Lohgarh village of Punjab’s Moga district on Thursday.
The police said that the deceased, Sukhjit Singh (36), was a drug addict and used to often beat his mother which infuriated the younger brother, Jaswant Singh.
On Thursday, after a verbal altercation broke out between the two brothers, Jaswant took a sword and attacked Sukhjit. The police said Sukhjit used to harass his mother and Jaswant for money to buy drugs.
Inspector Gurvinder Singh, SHO, Dharamkot police station, said, “An FIR has been registered on Sukhjit’s wife Tanu’s statement. She informed the police that her husband was addicted to drugs and also told us that the two brothers would often clash as Sukhjit used to thrash their mother Harjinder Kaur for money.”
Kaur told the police that the harassment was such that she and her husband Lal Singh left the home and started living at her parents’ house. On Thursday, when the clash broke out, Kaur was not at home. Kaur also told the police that Sukhjit was addicted to heroin, tobacco and ganja.
Gurvinder added that Sukhjit married Tanu, a migrant, a few months back despite his family objecting to it due to his addiction problems. “In her statement, Tanu said she came to know about Sukhjit’s addiction issues only after she got married,” said the inspector.
An FIR for murder was registered against Jaswant under section 302 of the IPC at Dharamkot police station and he was arrested. The police said Sukhjit was unempl
