Punjab is set to get a novel distinction by becoming first state in the country to have all its major cities linked with 4 or 6 lane roads by the end of 2013. In a meeting with PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon,Deptuy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the focus of SAD-BJP government will be to make road infrastructure best in the country. Saying that Punjab will be the only state in the country that will have its 90 per cent national highways four laned by next year,he said: With the completion of all ongoing projects,1,600 km out of total 1,703 km of national highways will be four laned by December 2013. The government has given its nod to foul laning of 10 important roads at the cost of Rs 1,357 crore,he added.
SLUMS and sewerage
The government is set to make six cities slum-free by constructing 5,200 tenements for slumdwellers at the cost of Rs 2,73 crores. In a meeting of the local government department,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said requisite funds have already been sanctioned to the authorities and the local government department should expedite work to provide tenements to the needy and eligible slumdwellers. Asking department officials to put the project of 100 per cent sewerage cover in all cities on fast track,Sukhbir said that he will not tolerate quality deterioration in the ambitious Rs 2,000-crore project. He also issued instructions for linking the sewerage network with sewerage treatment plants to ensure that no untreated sewerage was released in any open drain,choe or canal.
REVENUE
Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Punjab Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday sought the total cooperation of people in making the functioning of the revenue department transparent. Reviewing the working of the department,Majithia said his first priority will be to ensure accuracy of records being put on the department website,besides expediting the ongoing computerisation of Fard Kendras for its completion within 6 months. He also asked the financial commissioner (Revenue) to increase the number of employees in Fard Kendras,where there was a waiting period of more than the stipulated 15 minutes.
