Shreyas Talpade sticks to the lighter side of films Is the world really coming to an end? asks actor Shreyas Talpade in a pensive mood. Sitting at The Taj hotel,he shares his concern for the world at large. See whats happened in Japan. We have really messed up are we too late or is this a warning sign, says the actor. In Chandigarh,he has been shuttling between the sets of Shirish Kunders Joker and debutant director Mrigdeep Singh Lambas Teen Thay Bhai. While both are comedies,Talpade notes that Joker s Babban is an anti-thesis to Teen Thay Bhais Fancy Gill. Babban is Akshay Kumars kid brother and he is a village simpleton it is an ideal, fairytale setting, with no technology, mobile phones or television to interfere with the blissful existence, says the actor. The movie also stars Vindu Dara Singh,Vrajesh Hirjee and Sonakshi Sinha. Dressed up in a dhoti and kurta in Joker,Talpade wears jazzy, polyester in-your-face shirts in Teen Thay Bhai, that releases on April 15. His character,Fancy Gill,is a struggling Punjabi film actor who thinks Hollywood is made for him. Produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the movie revolves around three down-on-their-luck and out-of-money brothers who have to fulfill their dead grandfathers eccentric wishes, like spending an entire night in an abandoned cabin on the estate in order to get his property. These three,Om Puri,Deepak Dobriyal and me,are at loggerheads. While one is an unsuccessful dentist, the other is a small-time shopkeeper and Im an actor. We have to tolerate each other for three meetings, over three years,to gain access to the multi-crore estate that our grandfather has left, says Talpade, who worked on his diction by watching the re-runs of Punjabi films by Yograj Singh. Apart from the two flicks,Talpade will also be seen in romcoms Hum,Tum Aur Shabnam and Chemistry. On the small screen,he will be a judge on the show Comedy Ka Mahamuqabla. I love comedy,it took me time to convince directors, after Iqbal and Dor,that I can do comedy. Thats when Golmaal happened, says he. While the comedy show on television is helping him relive his theatre days by enacting, ideating and revising skits, working with movie directors has helped polish his skills as an actor. Every director comes with his/ her school of thought. Farah Khan,in Om Shanti Om,pitched the film as a notch above Nagesh Kukunoors Dor and a notch below Karan Johars movies. If Shirish is easy-going,Mrigdeep is a tough taskmaster, while Shyam loves improvisation. Nagesh is the only one who is unpredictable he can be specific or completely lets go, says Talpade. A cricket fan, this World Cup,he is putting his money on South Africa and Australia.
