Manpreet Badals trusted aide Brar quits party
Chandigarh: Peoples Party of Punjab secretary Charanjit Singh Brar on Saturday resigned from the post declared that he was leaving the party. Alleging that the party president Manpreet Badal was surrounded by a coterie of his relatives who lacked experience and maturity,Brar said: Their sycophancy has created a stifling atmosphere in the party. Brar,considered a trusted aide of Manpreet,alleged that even as senior leaders left the party no efforts were made to bring them back.
Do not acquire Mansa land: Khaira
CHANDIGARH: Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has urged the SAD-BJP government to shelve its plan to acquire 880 acres of fertile agricultural land in Mansa,to be handed over to a private company for a thermal plant. In a statement issued here,Khaira said the UPA government is bringing a comprehensive land acquisition policy during the monsoon session of the Parliament and pointed out that according to the proposed bill,multi-cropped,irrigated land cannot be acquired for public purposes. He added that in Mansa,more than 350 farmers have been arrested,which indicates that majority of farmers are unwilling to give their land and lose their means of livelihood.
Daljit is principals body president
AMRITSAR: Principal of Khalsa College Dr Daljit Singh was on Saturday unanimously elected president of the principals association. In a meeting of the association,a body of non-government,affiliated colleges of Guru Nanak Dev University,held at SDAM College,Dinangar in Gurdaspur, the members also authorized Singh to form a team of office bearers and executive committee.
Khap yet to hit screens
CHANDIGARH: Khap,a film which highlights the role of Khap mahapanchayats in honour killings in Haryana,was not allowed to be screened in the state even two days after being released all over India.
