The grand opera returns to Mumbai in February when Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) and Mumbais National Centre for Performing Arts present the works of two Italian composers Pietro Mascagnis masterpiece Cavalleria Rusticana and Ruggero Leoncavallos Pagliacci, one of the most performed operas worldwide. Both operas depict a range of emotions, from love and jealousy to betrayal and murder. This apart,SOI will also perform Carmina Burana,a manuscript of 254 poems and dramatic texts mostly from the 11th or 12th centuries, which were set to music by German composer Carl Orff in 1936. These landmark performances follow shows of Giacomo Puccinis Madama Butterfly in 2008 and Tosca in 2010.
