The Special Investigation team (SIT) probing the murder of 24-year-old Hoshiarpur girl,Jyoti Kumari, involving Doon MLA Pradesh,Ram Kumar Chaudhary, has concluded its investigation in the case. With the SIT investigations now over, the challan will be filed by the investigating officer and SIT member,ACP Virendar Singh,in court.

The three member SIT headed by Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashwin Shenvi was constituted last week. According to the SIT,it has been able to establish the involvement of the Doon MLA in the sexual exploitation of the girl and later her murder by the legislator in league with other accused,Gurmeet,Dharampal,Paramjeet and Tilak Raj. The filing of the challan in the case is being supervised by Shenvi. Officials said that another SIT member and Naraingarh ACP Suresh Kaushik also vetted the challan which has been finalised.

Police officials said that besides the handwriting samples, they also have the mobile call details of the MLA on the cellphone of the deceased as evidence against him. “It is a strong case for us. Not only is there circumstantial evidence against the MLA,but even scientific evidence in the case has pointed to the involvement of the MLA,” said a senior police official.

Police sources said they would take the handwriting specimen of the MLA on Wednesday to find out whether he over wrote documents at Jindal nursing home, where he had accompanied Jyoti Kumari to abort her child. “The handwriting samples would further help the investigation in the case,” said the police official. The samples will be taken by police on Wednesday,as they couldn’t be taken on Tuesday due to the non-appearance of the defence lawyer,Amandeep Bindra, who stated that he had not received the notice for Tuesday’s proceedings in the court.

Bindra said,“I couldn’t appear on Tuesday,as I was unaware of the proceedings. We received the notice on Tuesday and will appear in the case on Wednesday”.
