…that’s the beauty of a classic Bandgala feels India’s leading designer Raghuvendra Rathore who is looking to dress up Chandigarh men now!

It would be out of place, actually rather naive,to try and offer an introduction to a man who can solely be credited for dusting off the pages of history and reviving the charm of Indian royal dressing. This blue-blooded royal isn’t just a designer. Of course,he creates ensembles for both men and women,he’s designed fine jewellery, rolled out royal chocolates, restored vintage cars, worked with robots…he’s pretty much a fountainhead of creativity! Now that’s an apt way to present Raghuvendra Rathore. After dressing up the who’s who in his classic collections of Bandgalas,Achkans,Safari suits et al,the multi-faceted Rathore is now eyeing Chandigarh’s uber stylish set of men. “Actually when it comes to the royal style of dressing which makes the most of classic Indian designs,I have a strong clientele in cities like Chandigarh,Kolkata and Chennai,” Rathore surprises us with his statement. “So it’s only fair that I come closer,” says Rathore who is looking for partnership options this side of the region and that’s what brings him to the Chandigarh.

“Men’s fashion isn’t the same as women’s fashion. It’s not dependant on trend forecasts or what the fashion glossies are essaying out…men today like to dress their way, their style. It’s a global thing,” believes Rathore whose work keeps away from “exaggerated” styles. “I think a classic can never be out of fashion. At the same time I don’t look at reinventing the classic but working on making it perfect and retaining the charm of the original,” explains the designer. It’s in this context that he’s taking the royal Bandgala forward, not just as an ensemble but like a brand that will encompass much more. “A Bandgala is all about personalisation and perfection,” mentions the designer who apart from a classic clothing line that would offer the Achkans,Bandgalas,Jodhpur pants etc,is looking to bring in 30 to 40 products under the Bandgala umbrella, aimed at the modern Indian man. “I don’t want to restrict myself to just fashion design. My aim is to work as a design head in all areas connected to lifestyle,” briefs Rathore who has in the past effortlessly designed homes, interiors, products, uniforms and technology too. The latter being a recent foray. “Designing special software has been on my mind for some time now having earlier worked in the field of robotics,” explains Rathore who believes the time for designing high-end software applications is here. “Technology for men is changing, just like men’s fashion isn’t what it used to be,” Rathore points out. We’ll take his word on that
