International Liver Summit kicks off

Fortis’s International Liver Summit was inaugurated at the J W Marriott hotel on Friday by Stephen A Locarnini,a professor at Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory,Australia,and director of World Health Organization Regional Reference Laboratory for Viral Hepatitis B.

Giving an overview of the summit,Dr Arvind Sahni,organising chairman of FILS and director of Department of Gastroenterology,Fortis Hospital,Mohali,said,“During the summit,multidisciplinary comprehensive scientific sessions will be conducted by international and national experts in liver disease. There are seven plenary sessions,including one in Liver Histopathology and numerous key-note and in-depth lectures.”

D Shouval,professor of medicine at Hebrew University,Israel,emphasised that people should be encouraged to donate their liver and the public should be educated on this aspect. A slide book titled “Liver Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer: Global Challenges:” written by Dr. Arvind Sahni was launched by Locarnini while Aditya Vij launched another book on ‘FILS: Abstracts’ also written by Sahni.
