In a circular issued on Saturday, the UT Administration has directed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras be installed at all entry and exit points of public-dealing seats. The departments need to comply with the directives within a month and send a report to the UT Home Secretary-cum-Chief Vigilance Officer.
It was only recently that the Vigilance department conducted checks at various offices, including the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) and Estate Office. While most departments did not have CCTV cameras installed on public-dealing seats, others had the cameras located in wrong places.
The Administration has also issued directives restricting the entry of unauthorised persons to sensitive seats in government offices. A register should be maintained to record the names, addresses and purpose of visit of all visitors entering public offices, said the circular.
The respective Head of Department (HoD) should ensure that unauthorised persons are not allowed to contact officials dealing with sensitive public matters.
The HoDs have also been asked to make random inspection of files pending with various officials so as to check deliberate roadblocks in the discharge of public functions.
For redressal of public complaints, the Administration has also directed the authorities concerned to set up a complaint box that will be under the supervision of the respective HoDs.
