Cabinet likely to discuss prosecution sanction of Kahlon to CBI on December 22
CHANDIGARH:
The issues likely to be discussed in the meeting of the Punjab Cabinet,which is reportedly being held on December 22,will include the prosecution sanction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with regard to the case against Punjab Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon. The CBI has indicted Kahlon for his role in the “job-scam” while selecting panchayat secretaries,when he was a minister. The CBI is awaiting prosecution sanction for several months now. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,during the recently concluded Winter Session of the state Assembly,had forwarded the file of prosecution sanction for the perusal of the state cabinet. The Punjab Congress has been demanding that the Speaker steps down on moral grounds.

Sukhbir slams Centre on price rise
CHANDIGARH:
Sukhbir Singh Badal,chief of Shiromani Akali Dal and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister,on Friday slammed the Union Government for failing to curb the rising prices of essential commodities. He said inflation has touched an unprecedented figure of about 20 per cent,the highest in the last 12 years,indicating economic policies of the Centre have failed. In a statement issued,he alleged that the Union agriculture,finance and commerce ministries did not coordinate to tackle the problem of rising prices.

800 from Pak arrive for congregation
AMRITSAR:
More than 800 followers of Ahmadiayas’s sect from Pakistan reached India on Friday,through Attari check post. They will take part in the religious congregation of the community at the headquarters in Quadian in Gurdaspur from December 26 .A total of 5,200 people have been issued visas and more people are expected to reach India soon,said Tanveer Ahmad,spokesperson of the community.

CM’s political advisor bereaved
CHANDIGARH:
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and other cabinet ministers today expressed profound grief on the demise of Kuldeep Kaur,mother of CM’s political advisor,Dr Daljit Singh Cheema. She was 85. Badal shared his sympathies with members of the bereaved family. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal also expressed grief. Sukhbir said Kuldeep Kaur and her family made a significant contribution in strengthening the Akali Dal party at the grassroot level. “She nurtured his son with the basic philosophy of this Panthic party,” he said.

‘Depleting water table cause for concern’
GIDDERBAHA:
Former chief minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh expressed concern over the depleting water table in the state and accused the ruling government of its failure to tackle the problem. Amarinder was in Gidderbaha on Friday for the Congress party’s recruitment drive.

Two IPS officers transferred
CHANDIGARH:
The Punjab government on Friday transferred two IPS officers with immediate effect. Kuldeep Singh has been posted as DIG Vigilance Bureau and EOW. Balbir Kumar Bawa will be DIG Vigilance Bureau,Patiala zone, according to a press release.
