Workshop held on energy conservation
With the main objective to educate the upcoming youth about various environmental problems along with their solutions on the occasion of Akshay Urja Divas,a workshop was organised by the eco-club of Carmel Convent School in Chandigarh. Various competitions such as slogan writing,best of waste,T-shirt painting,and many more such competitions were organised on Saturday and Sunday. The chief Guest P S Sodhi was invited to brief the students of Go Green Eco-club on energy conversation. He also gave a concrete data of energy consumption,expenditure involved at different levels.
12-day yoga camp concludes
PATIALA: With a view to keep the officers of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited and the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited free from stress 12-day yoga camp concluded here on Saturday. Senior officials like directors and chief engineers of PSPCL & PSTCL attended the camp,which was conducted by Yoga expert Ashok Rana.
Kashmiri Pandit Sabha holds rally
PANCHKULA: A protest rally was organised by the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha,Panchkula,against vitiating the peaceful atmosphere of Kashmir by anti-national elements,in Sector 20 today. They also opposed the granting of autonomy to Kashmir and showed their concern that granting of the same shall further alienate Kashmir from the national stream. The protestors showed their resentment about ignoring their interests claiming that no serious steps have been taken by various governments for the last two decades. They also rued the denial of fundamental rights to Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs.
Lab blast: Two members join probe committee
Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti has reportedly included Dr A K Utreja of PGIMER (as chairperson) and Dr G Lehal (GMCH,Sector 32) as members of the special committee constituted by him to look into the minor blast that recently took place in a laboratory of H S Judge Dental College in the University South Campus.
The other members of the committee,whose names were announced on Saturday,are Dr A K Gauba,Director Principal,H S Judge Dental College,Dr Ravi Gupta,Fellow,Dr Khullar,PU Health Centre and M Joshi,Special Officer,V-C Office (Convener).
400 students test their mathematical skills
More than 400 students from the tricity and neighbouring states were tested for their mathematical skills in solving problems speedily during the regional Anzan competition organised by C L Aggarwal D A V School ,Sector 7,by Semas Academy. Children in the age group of six to 14 years did a complex mathematical calculations mentally and without using a calculator. Nearly nine participants were awarded Champion of Champion trophies in their respective levels and age groups. The winners included Gurnoor,Mayank ,Anubhav,Sarmishtha ,Rythum Jindal,Shubham Jain ,Isha Singh ,Samiksha Nagpal and Shivam Goel . Sunita Ranyal ,principal of the school was the chief guest who awarded prizes to the winners. The children also participated in a cultural event held after the competition where they also displayed their skills in the field of singing ,dancing and playing musical instruments.
Everest climber shares experiences with Panjab University students
It is not the mountain you conquer,you conquer yourself. Quoting these lines by Sir Sir Edmund Hillary,Atul Karwal,Joint Commissioner of Police,Ahemdabad,shared his experiences of scaling the Mt Everest and also taught the lessons of leadership to the students of University Business School (UBS),Panjab University. He was invited by the institute to share his experiences with students. Karwal scaled Mt Everest in the first attempt at the age of 42 without having any experience of scaling high mountains. He emphasised that he could succeed because of his mental and physical preparation,family support and inspiration,and above all his strong desire to scale the Mt Everest. Till date,around 2050 mountaineers have climbed the summit of Mt Everest and only 150 among them are Indians. Karwal shared with the students his exciting journey to the Mt Everest through magnificent pictures taken during the expedition and clear exposition of extreme adventure and risk. He related his experiences with the world of management and also spoke about effective leadership. According to Karwal,you must have courageously faced adversity in order to be a good leader. Courage is not the absence of fear but acting in its presence. He encouraged the students by suggesting that one can leverage success out of fear and be enterprising.
