Woman dies in road accident
A woman passenger,who was commuting in a rickshaw near the Poultry Farm Chowk,died after the rickshaw was hit by a tractor on Friday. The woman identified,Santosh Rani from Sector 29,received serious injuries and was rushed to GMCH 32,where she succumbed to injuries. A case under Section 279,304 A IPC has been registered against the driver of the tractor.
Parties to declare their mayor hopefuls today
Different political parties will declare their Mayor hopefuls on Sunday for which nominations are slated to be filed on Monday. Anu Chatrath is a strong candidate from the Congress followed by Anju Beniwala. Meanwhile,it is expected that BJP-Akali combine would have an alliance with BSP. The likely candidate for the Mayor post is Harjinder Kaur. Final decisions on the names would be taken tomorrow.
Mezzanine floors: CBM welcomes Admns move
The Building Byelaws Sub-committee of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal on Saturday welcomed the decision of the Chandigarh Administration to allow mezzanine floor in all the SCOs and SCFs of Chandigarh by having a 4ft depression in the floor. President of CBM Charanjeev Singh and General Secretary Diwakar Sahoonja termed it a positive step for development of commerce in the city. They added that it is a welcome step in the direction of making need based changes in the commercial buildings in the city like Chandigarh where the commercial space is limited and well defined.
DGP inaugurates Nek Chand Traffic Awareness Park
Punjab DGP Paramdeep Singh Gill today inaugurated the Nek Chand Traffic Awareness-cum-Amusement Park developed by Pir Baba Jinda Shaheed Society at Model Town police station in Nurpur Bedi town of Ropar district. While addressing a function,Gill lauded the efforts of the Ropar police in developing the park which would make children aware about the traffic rules. He honoured ASI Gurmukh Singh with Joginder Singh Khaira Award for his meritorious service. Ropar SSP L K Yadav also spoke on the occasion.
Palm Garden inaugurated in Dadumajra
The Palm Garden in Dadumajra was dedicated to the city at a function held on Saturday. Developed in an area of 2.75 acre,a variety of flowers dot the green belt. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal dedicated the park to the residents. Speaking on the occasion,Mayor Kamlesh said it was the first garden in the colony where multiplay equipment had been installed. Care would be taken to provide more facilities to children in the new garden,she said.
Kashmir Chand is CITCO union chief
Kashmir Chand has been named as the president of the CITCO Workers Union. Prem Lal would be the senior vice-president,Sudhir Singh,Umesh Dixit,Nek Ram,Rupesh Mehta and Ballbir Singh the vice-presidents,Baldev Raj the general secretary and Umesh Sharma the Special Secretary. A number of executive members and secretaries were also appointed.
Villages in Haryana will be linked with major bus routes
All villages in remote areas of Haryana will be linked with bus routes through approach roads. This was stated by Haryana Transport and Tourism Minister O P Jain,adding that the transport department would press 2,700 new buses into service for rural areas. In reply to a query,Jain said the new bus stand for Ambala City would be constructed soon since its location had been finalised.
