Man posing as SC judge held
Ambala:A person impersonating as a Supreme Court judge was arrested by the police on Friday on the orders of Superintendent of Police Bharati Arora. The accused,Shailender,allegedly called Arora from his mobile on October 26,posing as SC judge Mukund Lal Sharma. He tried to pressurise her to get himself possession of a disputed piece of land in Kailashnagar area. The SP became doubtful and ordered an inquiry by the SHO concerned,who,after scanning the mobile call records,found that the call was made by Shailender. Shailender had a dispute with his neighbour over the possession of the plot. He was produced in court on Friday,from where he was sent in judicial custody.
Scooterist dies in accident
PARWANOO:Senior citizen Bhola Ram,a resident of Model Town in Pinjore,died in a road accident on Friday morning. He was on his way home after dropping his son at the Pinjore HMT bus stop when a motorcycle collided with his scooter. Ram was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem. A case has been registered against the motorcyclist who is also a resident of Pinjore.
13 hurt as van rams tree
Ambala:Thirteen of the 15 people travelling in a van were injured when their vehicle hit a tree on the Dehradun-Ambala highway. They have been admitted in MM Medical College and Hospital in Mullana where the condition of two of them is stated to be serious. The driver of the van said he lost control of the vehicle when he tried to save a student who suddenly came on middle of the road.
Police crack down on movie piracy: 3 arrested
MOHALI:To check the sale and stock of pirated material,representatives of music companies,with the help of police,swooped down upon markets in the district and arrested three persons,from whom the police claimed to have recovered 975 pirated discs and a computer system used for the illegal trade practice. According to the police,Suraj Bhan and Amandeep Singh were arrested from Nayagaon with 650 allegedly pirated discs while Vikrant Gupta of Mohali was held from Mata Gujri Enclave in Kharar with 325 pirated discs and a computer system. Mohan Singh of Sector 45,Chandigarh,however,managed to escape during a raid at his shop in Kumbra village. On a complaint filed by music companies representatives,the police have lodged separate cases under Sections 51,52,52-A and 57 of the Copyright Act,1957,against the accused.
Rs 4 lakh stolen in two theft cases
KHARAR:In separate incidents,two houses in Kharar were burgled and cash and valuables worth Rs 4 lakh were stolen,the police said. Kamaljeet Singh of Sector 4 reported to the police that he had left his house on Friday morning only to find the locks broken and house rampaged upon return. He reported a loss of cash and valuables worth Rs 3 lakh. Santokh Singh of Gulmohar City reported that some miscreants had broken into his house and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 1 lakh.
