IMD forecasts light rain, snow in Chamba, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti

Minimum temperatures over high hill areas in Himachal Pradesh may fall by 2 to 4°C in the next few days, as per the weather forecast.

Remoteness and lower population density have benefited Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti, but the districts show serious gaps in health infrastructure. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain or snowfall at isolated places over high hill areas, including Chamba, Kullu, Sirmour and Lahaul and Spiti, in Himachal Pradesh in the next 36 hours, adding that dry weather is likely to prevail during the remaining days of the week.

The weather department further forecast that the minimum temperatures over high hills and adjoining mid-hill areas are expected to remain largely unchanged during the next 24 hours and may gradually fall by 2 to 4°C over the subsequent two to three days.

Meanwhile, dense fog was observed in Bilaspur, while shallow fog was reported from Mandi district in the last 24 hours.

“Over the rest of the state, no major change in minimum temperatures is expected during the next four to five days. Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2-4°C over the next two to three days and thereafter rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent two to three days,” the weather department said.

Officials at IMD, Shimla, maintained that there was no significant change in minimum temperatures at most stations during the period. Minimum temperatures at a few places were normal or near normal, while at some stations they were 2 to 4°C above normal. Across the state, minimum temperatures ranged between minus 6°C and 11°C. Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature at -6.2°C.

Maximum temperatures also showed no large variations at most stations. However, maximum temperatures at most places remained 2 to 5°C above normal, while at isolated stations, they were normal or near normal. Maximum temperatures across the state ranged between 9°C and 25°C, with Paonta Sahib recording the highest maximum temperature of 25°C.

No rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, ground frost or gusty winds were reported during the period.
