Hidden agendas
Justifing stunts performed without wearing protective gear at a road-safety awareness rally,a performer came up with a strange reply. As protective gear are undergarments,a performer claimed they were wearing them but it was not visible to onlookers.
The performer does not seem to have seen the pictures published by all newspapers clearly showing how casually, without wearing the requisite gear, stunts were performed at the so-called safety rally to which Chandigarh Police was a party.
What a shame
The stinker sent by Inspector General (IG) of Police,R P Upadhyaya,to his three senior most officers is a first of its kind in the history of Chandigarh Police. Keeping in view public interest, the IG minced no words in seeking a written explanation from the Deputy Inspector General of Police,Alok Kumar,Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP),Naunihal Singh, and SSP (Traffic),Maneesh Chaudhary.
The three were happy to be clicked during what they called a road safety rally, little realising their photographs would appear a day later in all newspapers after the IGs stinker.
Oops!
The translation of Punjab Governor and UT administrator Shivraj V Patils Independence Day speech was full of bloopers. At one place where the administrator talks about the increasing number of vehicles and lack of parking spaces, the speech reads, people owing enough land can construct the garage in their house or on the roof-top to park their vehicles.
It seems the practicality of the suggestion was something that was certainly not explored.
Stray problem
In a recent meeting of residents from different sectors with the Deputy Commissioner,Panchkula,S S Phulia, the issue of stray cattle and dogs in the city was raised. The DC explained the government was taking adequate measures by constructing a cattle pond in the city to deal with the menace.
However,he conceded the administration was finding it difficult to deal with the dogs as animal rights activists raised protests over their sterilisation. A concrete solution is still awaited.
No time
Earlier this week when Beijing Olympics bronze medallist Vijender Singh visited Chandigarh from Patiala, where he is attending the national camp,he was seen sporting a beard. Most of the fans who met Singh were surprised to see the boxers new look. Singh, however, seems to have no time to shave. Nonetheless,he will have to part with the beard for the trials of the world championship to be held later this month.
Blissfully unaware
When it comes to making excuses the Chandigarh Police can put school kids to shame. When asked about whether any arrests had been made in a hit and run case, the police officer investigating the case blamed it on the victim. He claimed the victim was unable to disclose the complete registration number of the offending vehicle, little realising that the official press release issued by the police mentioned the complete registration number. When confronted, the police official, caught on the wrong foot, asked the journalist not to act as an investigating officer.
Backfire
The threat that they would not participate in the Faculty Development Program has landed four conveners of the Joint Action Committee of Teachers (JAC) in prison.
The four had warned the Education Department a week ago to boycott the Independence Day celebrations and also the Teachers day. Now the DPI (S) has decided not to withdraw the FIR till appropriate action is taken against the teachers.
