HC issues notice to Admn, top cops, Mehra

Makhija: Last will of their father was executed on January 7, 2009 and their mother was appointed as the executrix.

Former advisor Pradip Mehra’s sister Anju Makhija has taken the fight against her brother to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

On her petition, seeking investigation by an independent agency in her complaint to the police, the court has issued notices to the Chandigarh Administration, the IG and the SSP of the city police and Pradip Mehra, who is now chairman of PCA.

Justice Daya Chaudhary has asked the respondents to submit their replies before September 9.

In her complaint to the police, submitted in June, Anju had accused Mehra of divesting her of the liquid assets worth Rs 25 lakh which, she claimed, their late father had willed in her favour.

She said her father, who died in 2013, had constructed a double-storey house in Sector 11 with his earnings and savings. The first floor was constructed after my father retired and was rented out.

Anju said that her father was dependent on his pension and the rental income, but he was denied rent and also deprived of his pension.

“My father had invested a substantial amount in debentures through a private bank wherein I was a nominee. It was made clear that while my brother will have the complete ownership of the house, FDRs and investments in debentures would devolve on me”, reads Anju’s complaint.

She said the last will of their father was executed on January 7, 2009 and their  mother was appointed as the executrix.

Following this, Mehra allegedly developed an animosity against Anju and “created circumstances where I was prevented from meeting my parents whose health steadily declined rendering them seriously indisposed.”

Three days before their father’s death, Anju alleged that Mehra fraudulantly mananged to get control of all liquid assets amounting to Rs 25 lakh. “The bank claimed to have received a communication from our father to do so which is preposterous as my father was bedridden then”, said Anju.
