Rakesh Daultabad, an Independent MLA from Haryana’s Badshahpur, died of a cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Gurugram on Saturday morning. He was 45 and is survived by his wife and two sons.

Daultabad, who contested as an Independent candidate and defeated BJP’s Manish Yadav in 2019, had supported the BJP in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Badshahpur falls under the Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency.

In a statement, Manipal Hospital said, “Our respected member of legislative assembly, Mr. Rakesh Daultabad presented to the ER at 09:05 am with acute chest pain, the ECG was done immediately which showed ST elevation large myocardial infarction (extensive antero-lateral myocardial infarction), just after the ECG the patient had a massive cardiac arrest and collapsed at 09:15 am.”

It added, “The cardiac massage (CPR) was started immediately, which continued for approx. 45 minutes. There was a recovery of the rhythm and blood pressure around 10:00 am therefore a collective decision was taken immediately for the definite cardiac procedure, he was shifted to Cath lab, there it was found that the main artery was 100% occluded, which was opened, but due to refractory cardiogenic shock, he could not sustain and could not be revived in spite of all measures and was declared at 12:45 pm. Our deepest heart felt condolences with the family and the citizens of Gurugram.”

He was known for his social works in the Badshahpur assembly segment. From providing free ambulance services to the patients to financing the education of the poor and downtrodden were among a few of the works that Daultabad was known for.

Several senior politicians paid their condolences to the bereaved family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and several others posted their condolences on social media platform ‘X’.

With Rakesh’s death, the current strength of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha has further been reduced to 87. In the 90-member Haryana state legislative assembly, two MLAs, including Manohar Lal Khattar and Ranjit Singh, had earlier resigned from their respective seats. Both are contesting the Lok Sabha elections on BJP tickets from Karnal and Hisar, respectively.
