Grasping history is not easy: Rajmohan Gandhi

Gandhi said importance of history can be realised only by continuous hard work by teachers.

Grasping the impact of history is not easy for people in the present time,said eminent historian and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi,Professor Rajmohan Gandhi during the seminar on ‘The Making of Modern Punjab: Education,Science and Social Change in Punjab’ organised to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Professor Ruchi Ram Sahni,at PU on Friday.

Quoting Leo Tolstoy,Gandhi said importance of history can be realised only by continuous hard work and paper presentation by teachers.

Speaking on the occasion,another renowned historian Professor J S Grewal delivered a lecture on ‘Ruchi Ram Sahni: His life and times’. He emphasised upon Sahni’s association with Brahmo Samaj and Akali movement. He highlighted Sahni’s concern for spreading scientific temper in the country and the role of Punjabi language as a vehicle for spreading scientific ideas. Also,a paper on ‘Making of Indian Scientific Community: 1880-1980’ was presented on the occasion by Professor Kamlesh Mohan,who discussed the complex process of making and development of the Indian scientific community.
