Hundreds of patients visiting the emergency wing of the Government Multi Speciality Hospital,Sector 16 are a harassed lot. For,the X ray machine installed at the hospitals emergency is not working for a last five days now.
The same problem had occurred a few days back and at that time, the X ray machine did not function for over two months.
Consequently the patients who are brought to the emergency ward for x rays are taken to the x ray machine in the OPD.
Already,on any given day, over 250-300 x rays are done daily at the OPD and additional about 80-100 x rays from the emergency wing are sent everyday.
Most of the emergency cases are road accident victims who are brought to the GMSH.
In the absence of emergency x ray machine, accident victims are either asked to wait or are sent without doing the x rays.
Official spokesperson of the hospital Dr G Dewan said,There was some technical error in the machine. The problem has been fixed and the machine would start functioning from tomorrow.
In many cases, the patients are forced to get the X rays done from outside in private laboratories, which are very expensive.
Ramesh, who fell from his scooter after some unidentified vehicle hit his scooter a few days back, was brought to GMSH,but he was sent without doing X ray on his leg which was hurt in the accident.
He was only administered the first aid and was told that there was only a surface injury.
Later when he got the X ray done from a private lab in Sector 16,he was told that there was a hairline fracture.
