Till the time she’s on the sets, delivering dialogues, romancing the hero, dancing and dramatizing,Genelia is a star. “Once I’m home,it’s back to being normal,” the actress connects on line and talks about her life, work and how easy it is for her to keep the two balanced. “Because I can detach very easily. I don’t have this craving to be a superstar,or this need need to be famous,it’s the love that I get from people that excites me,keeps me going. I simply enjoy entertaining and taking on new challenges,” coos the actress. The latest challenge in her life is ‘The Big Switch’. Well, not literally! It’s a new show by UTV and the girl’s going to host it. “The show has ten rich brats from around the country. They will each be paired with a youngster from the slums, referred to as a ‘slum buddy’. The rich brats will live in the slums with their buddy. At the same time, they will each also be trying their best to fulfil their slum buddies’ dreams,” shoots Genelia, who took on the project on the insistence of her ‘good friends’ UTV’s Zarina Mehta and Ronnie Screwvala. “The concept is amazing. It’s nothing like a reality show. There’s no prize money; it’s about fulfilling a dream. It’s a show with a heart,” says Genelia. “I’m a very personal person, and I come from a middle class background,so I can relate to this show,” for Genelia, money is important, and she says she knows the value of it. “I know what I’ve earned and how I’ve earned it,and luxury doesn’t come easily. I indulge, but I don’t splurge,so I am pretty much somewhere in the middle!” About her duties as a host,Genelia insists that she’s not going to be your typical stereotype host. “I’ll be a friend,a confidante,a common link,” and for this,we’ll see her scouting the slums 12 hours a day for 13 days!

Ask her if this would all affect her movie business, and she’s sure it won’t. “Television is a very vast medium of entertainment. It has a huge reach, and it’s a different ball game altogether,” while she’s not a very remote savvy person, the show Genelia’s hooked to is MTV’s Roadies. “It’s mindblowing, and being a sports-adventure person,I like it even more.”

After a lukewarn response to Life Partner – she, however feels that it’s all a misconception for the film made money and didn’t get the required publicity it should have – Genelia is now looking forward to Chance Pe Dance,It’s My Life and Hook Ya Crook. In the meantime, look out for ‘The Big Switch’ on UTV Bindass, this October 9.
