So what if you cannot be there in Johannesburg to watch your favourite team’s progress at the FIFA World Cup that begins on June 10? You can drum up enough support by getting yourself a fun football fashion kit instead, while you root for them in front of a television screen at home.

The German sporting brand Puma has sponsored the football gear for 12 African teams, including Ghana, the Ivory Coast,Egypt,Mozambique and Tunisia. The World Cup celebratory collection called the Africa Unity Kit,that has just been launched, keeps their uniforms in mind. Choose from a range of sweatshirts, hoodies, tee shirts and other casual basics with cooler credentials than your common sportswear line. The shirts are a mix of blue and earthy brown — a colour reportedly developed by mixing soil samples from Mozambique,Ghana, the Ivory Coast and Cameroon. “This World Cup,Africa will be at the centre of the football world. So we decided to create a unique kit embracing the diversity of African nations, while valuing the unity of players and supporters towards a common goal,” says Jochen Zeitz, chairman and CEO,Puma AG. You can add more punch with a range of cleat shoes, that look every bit as fierce as the shirts. The shirts are priced at Rs 4,500 and are available in all their stand-alone outlets.

Ardent Ronaldo fans though can pitch for a jersey from the collection at Adidas. From the neon yellow and green jersey of Brazil to a blazing blue of France and a cool white for England there is a lot on offer in jerseys at prices that begin at Rs 2,999.

Meanwhile,s.Oliver, another casual wear brand, has brought out a great selection of tee-shirts with funky one-liners and whacky motifs in cotton for FIFA. In one,a mohawked zebra is a reference to the venue of the World Cup,while in another a bearded man in a red hat is cheering for all he is worth. They are priced between Rs 899 and Rs 1,099.

British fashion brand French Connection is celebrating World Cup 2010 with the launch of an exclusive range of tees (Rs 1699) . England,Italy or Brazil, football fanatics can support their favourite team in style this soccer season. Nike, too, has introduced national team kits, manufactured from recycled plastic bottles and shoes specifically for the World Cup. National teams of nine countries will be sporting Nike kits this World cup. Jerseys of Netherlands,Brazil and Portugal and variants of Mercurial Vapor Fly shoes are at hand at stores.

Inner-wear too gets sporty this season, with Calvin Klein introducing its X Global Underwear line. Inspired by the love of sport and the passion for football, these low rise trunks (Rs 1,099),represent different countries in their respective flag colours along with the graphic of the country name, written at the back in its native language. The bold X-waist band is coloured to match the body of the garment. The products are available at the brand outlets in the city. Before you get ambushed by exciting matches,go on and get a slice of action with some chic football gear.
