Four get sentences under NDPS Act

The court sentenced two persons to seven years rigorous imprisonment under the NDPS Act for possessing 25 kg poppy husk.

A court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Parminder Pal Singh on Thursday sentenced two persons to seven years rigorous imprisonment under the NDPS Act for possessing 25 kg poppy husk.

A fine of Rs 70,000 was also imposed on each one of them,failing which they will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of 9 months.

The convicts,Amit Kumar,(25) and Navdeep Singh,(32),were charged under Sections 15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. Both were booked and arrested in May 2009 in Lalru after police,acting on a tip-off,intercepted their car on Delhi-Ambala Highway and caught them red-handed. Police said,the convicts had brought the narcotics from Gwalior and were on their way to supply them in Chandigarh.

In a separate case in the same court,two more persons were sentenced to 4 years RI for possessing narcotics substances and a fine of Rs 40,000 were imposed on them,failing to which will invite them an SI of eight months.

Kamaljeet Singh,(27) and Santokh Singh,(28) were convicted under Sections 15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. Both were arrested in May 2009 with 25kg of poppy husk.
