When it comes to removing building violations and encroachments, the UT Estate Office entrusted with this responsibility seems to be taking its own sweet time to remove such violations, even the ones identified by their own teams.
As per EO s own survey done in 2007,there were 54 violations in Star Enclave,Sector 48,a group housing society, recorded by the EO team. However, even after five years, these have not been removed.
In fact, the then Deputy Commissioner R K Rao had specifically ordered that these 54 violations would be removed, according to a copy of the orders in possession of the Chandigarh Newsline procured under RTI. However till date no action has been taken on the listed violations, some of which were illegal iron gates at the entrance on ground floor flats, grills on common land, windows in the rooms covered by making brick walls, side grills and front duct covered with door.
Now the residents are alleging bias on the part of UT Estate Office claiming that every time a team of the Estate Office comes to remove violations in the group housing society, only a handful of houses are picked and the violations continue to increase manifold.
Assistant Estate Officer (AEO)-cum-Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies,Rahul Gupta said,I am not aware of the case in question. However,if the residents of any society have any grievance, they can come to the office. Their complaint will be looked into and sorted out. However,as a policy,we take cognisance of violations in the city by carrying out regular surveys.
Recently,a team of the Estate Office carried out a demolition drive in this society and removed violations from only three flats. Aggrieved, the residents have approached the present Deputy Commissioner-cum-registrar cooperative societies,Brijendra Singh for his intervention in the matter.
