Finally,child mapping survey completed

UT Education Department has completed its child mapping survey for the current academic year to identify eligible candidates for free and compulsory education under the Right to Education Act 2009.

UT Education Department has completed its child mapping survey for the current academic year to identify eligible candidates for free and compulsory education under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.

While the data has been collected, the Department is yet to upload the details on its website. According to officials, the data collected in the recent survey will be used to update the records of the previous survey (already available on the website).

Admitting that the survey conducted by its officials in December 2010 had left out many city areas while identifying eligible candidates, the Department had, this time, specifically directed the surveyors to visit those areas which were left out in the previous survey. “The implementation of RTE is in at initial stage, therefore, this information is liable to contain discrepancies. If there is any error in the data the same may be intimated to the head of the nearby government school with a copy to the District Education Officer for further action,” reads the Department’s website.

The surveyors had failed to find children belonging to economically weaker sections or disadvantaged groups in several colonies like Attawa,Bhadheri and Colony No. 4,which are home to migrant labourers,in the previous survey.

In December last year, the Department had instructed as many as 3,000 government school teachers to visit the households located in city’s periphery areas for finding out children aged between six and fourteen years, who were either never enrolled or dropped out of school.
