It’s a little known fact that Satyavati was instrumental in altering the course of Devavratha Bhisham Pitamahas destiny. In fact,he was named Bhisham by his father,King Shantanu,after he took the vow of celibacy in order to let his father marry Satyavati and make her the queen and her children heir to Hastinapurs throne, says actor Sayantani Ghosh as she gives a brief outline of her character Satyavati,the feisty queen full of wants and desires in Star Pluss Mahabharat. She believes that this time,the mythological series is fleshing out the female characters who played an equally important role in one of the greatest stories every told. After doing various roles in television serials such as Kumkum,Ghar Ek Sapna,Crime Patrol,Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuyein,a couple of Bengali films and the reality show Bigg Boss Season 6,Ghosh is enjoying her stint on Mahabharat. It is an epic and I feel it is important to tell the story all over again for the present generation, says Ghosh,adding how she would not want it to be made in a contemporary format in modern-day setting.
Its a beautiful piece of mythology,and we should show it as it is. Also,it is still relevant today. Its characters,situations,emotions,stories where Amba is fire and vengeance,Draupadi stands for ego,self respect and pride,and Krishna is the sutradhaar, she says.
