Electricity wing clerk nabbed while accepting Rs 2,000 bribe

A clerk with the Electricity Wing of Chandigarh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 after the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation laid a trap to nab him on Friday afternoon.

A clerk with the Electricity Wing of Chandigarh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 after the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) laid a trap to nab him on Friday afternoon. The accused has been identified as Jaswant Singh.

The anti corruption branch had received a complaint from a private contractor executing work at Judicial Complex,Sector 43,alleging that Singh had demanded a bribe from him to rectify an error in his electricity bill.

The complainant alleged that he had got a temporary electrical connection installed for executing work awarded to him. However,he received inflated bills showing higher charges.

He had lodged a complaint with the officials of Electricity Wing in this regard. Singh had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for correcting the electricity bill of the complainant but later the amount was reduced to Rs 2,000. He was nabbed from Sampark Centre,Sector 43.
