Constable Sarjagvinder Singh had rammed his car into a cyclist at Kaimbwala village
A day after a drunk constable rammed his car into a cyclist at Kaimbwala village,the police suspended him and initiated a departmental inquiry against him. Meanwhile,the wife of the accused constable today complained to the UT SSP alleging that the villagers manhandled her following the incident.
High drama was witnessed at Kaimbwala village last night when a Chandigarh police constable rammed his car into a cyclist in an inebriated condition and hit a scooterist in a bid to escape from the spot.
The accused,Sarjagvinder Singh,was found drunk in his medical examination and a case of causing injuries due to rash and negligent driving was registered against him. He was arrested from his residence.
The policeman,who did not stop after hitting the cyclist,was given a chase by villagers. He kept on driving,carrying the bicycle on the bonnet of his Maruti car.
The cyclist,Kheru Ram of the same village,reportedly suffered serious injuries in the mishap and was admitted to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital,Sector 16.
Eyewitnesses said the car stopped after hitting a scooterist,Sushil Kumar. The car driver fled the spot,leaving his vehicle behind. Onlookers surrounded the vehicle and called the police. Infuriated villagers began protesting against the police,following which the SHO reached the spot.
Additional force was also called to bring the situation under control. The sarpanch of the village also reached the spot.
