It’s a meeting ground for artists from varied regions and the effect is a play of opposites patterns, styles, expressions, thoughts, perspectives. Untitled is a group show with an endeavour to not only display works of art,but get together and interact among themselves and the public, discussing new developments in art, society, how art reflects our times et al. The last few months have seen a number of group shows, with artists from various regions and a large representation from the city coming together with not just paintings, but sculptures, photographs, lithographs, art books et al. Whats more, many of these shows are put together with artists themselves, without any patronization. Like Untitled,an exhibition of paintings, prints, drawings, photography and sculptures, which as 35 artists displaying at least two works each. Its a collective effort and we all got together to put it this exhibition in place. Its a great chance for all of us to know each other, discover and discuss the work thats happening all over and other cultures as well, says Madanlal, who has his latest work from the Bull series is on display. It depicts the bull within and in this series,my colour palette has also changed,as I have chosen more earthy colours instead of the mauves and pinks that I work with, says Madanlal. Interesting etching and aquatint by Rakesh Bani, sculptures by Asurvedh from Delhi and Deepak Veram from Chhattisgarh, the works represent a diversity of not only mediums and thought, but also cultures. Amit Dutt brings back memories of innocent childhood games, which children of today dont experience, while Anjali uses a unique technique that combines ink and acrylics to portray bulls which use their force and energy only in times of challenge. Nature, motherhood, environment, love, childhood, god, simple village life…its an absorbing and
colourful view.
The exhibition is on at the Punjab Kala Bhavan till January 24.
