It’s the annual get-together of not just members of the country’s apex body in the hospitality industry but of all those remotely associated with hosting guests. This year, the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) is set to host its 45th annual convention at Agra from August 27 to 29. “Though an annual affair, each year is an important one as the convention provides a platform for discussions and deliberations, not only on the promotion of hospitality business but also on national and state tourism policies,” says Chandigarh-based restaurateur Gurvinder Juneja who is a member of the Conference Organising Committee as well as honorary treasurer,Hotel & Restaurant Association of Northern India.

The 45th FHRAI convention will be held under the presidentship of Rajinder Kumar, director,The Ambassador Hotel,New Delhi. The convention will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Tourism Kumari Selja.

“This year’s theme is wellness tourism and it is one of the most important avenues for enriching the tourism economies of our country,” says Juneja as he went on to explain,“Our hotels are also entering the wellness services market by tying up with professional organisations in a range of wellness fields, offering spas and Ayurvedic treatments. The convention will host discussions as well as plenary sessions on how best we can tap the global market.” According to Juneja,as many as 50 delegates from Chandigarh are expected to attend the Agra convention.

Informing that registrations were currently open for the convention,Juneja says,“We are expecting as many as 700 members who will be a part of the three-day sessions but we are open to non-members as well. There are times when people wanting to get into the hospitality industry are looking for guidance or a one-stop solution. In those cases, the FHRAI Convention is worth attending.”

For the uninitiated,FHRAI was established in 1955 and is the third largest association with more than 3,500 members comprising of 2,300 hotels,1,133 restaurants,152 associates and four regional associations. The FHRAI convention is one of the most sought after events in the tourism calendar providing a forum for policy makers, implementers, stakeholders, and owners of hotels and restaurants to interact and present their views, alternatives and solutions.
