Dell employee found dead

A 27-year-old resident of Sector 37 was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning.

A 27-year-old resident of Sector 37 was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning.

The deceased,Varinder alias Veeru, was an employee of Dell in Mohali and was staying as a paying guest in the house.

Although initial reports attributed the cause of death as swine flu,the police have ruled out that possibility. A post mortem has established that Varinder was not infected with swine flu.

The police recovered some medicines from the deceased’s room, which were later found to be painkillers and antibiotics. “We are awaiting the vicera report to ascertain the exact cause of death,” said a police officer.

The body was found lying face down in the bathroom and did not bear any external injury marks. Varinder’s roommate Jhujhar Singh,a resident of Patiala, said he returned around 7:30 pm on Monday and found the bathroom locked from inside. “I heard the water running and used the other bathroom. Then I went to sleep. When I woke up around 5:45 am,the bathroom was still locked. I knocked on the door but did not get any response,” said Jhujhar.

He immediately informed the landlord, who called the police.

Ruling out any foul play,Station House Officer of the Sector-39 police station Inspector Janak Rana said: “There are no signs of a forced entry. The bathroom was locked from inside and there is no other entry point.”

Varinder joined Dell a week ago after relocating from Gurgaon. Ranjit Singh, the landlord, said Varinder had given him Rs 500 in advance and told him that he wanted to shift elsewhere.

Not swine flu: UT health officials
After friends of the deceased claimed Varinder had been complaining of breathlessness and fever for a couple of days,a rumour spread that swine flu was the reason of death. UT health officials, however, said the death had no link with H1N1 influenza. “We have checked our records and the deceased had not reported to any hospital with the symptoms. Linking the death with swine flu is absolutely incorrect,” said H C Gera, nodal officer for swine flu.
