Three ongoing art and photography exhibitions in the city highlight nature and the world around us
On Nature’s Trail: The camera has been Kuldeep Kumar and Pramod Kumars constant companion for many years now. The two friends love to travel and capture nature in all its glory along the way. The years of work have now been translated in the form of an exhibition of more than 70 photographs, based on the theme different facets of nature. The photographs have been taken in Chandigarh and adjoining parts of Himachal Pradesh, and showcase natures beauty in various moods and seasons. Whats striking about the exhibition is the fact that the two self-taught and young photographers have not restricted their work only to flora and fauna, but have made the photographs come alive by incorporating the human angle in many frames. People, their relationship with animals, birds, trees, insects and water, makes for an interesting view. Using both art and technique, the photography is versatile and includes view of the rural areas, the forest in many moods, wildlife and urban life. Photography is a passion, and I find solace in it, says Kuldeep . For Pramod, what started as a hobby in his teenage years,is now a passion and profession. Its nature that gets the best out of me, he sums up.
The exhibition is on at the Fine Arts Museum,Panjab University till March 22.
Life,In Colour: Paintings, line art and photographs Charanjot Kaur expresses her thoughts and feelings in many ways. Working essentially in acrylic and mixed mediums, this young artist paints on a variety of themes, with many abstract works as part of her ongoing exhibition. Landscapes, portraits and nature scenes Kaurs works have a lot of white space, giving the viewer a lot of room to feel the thought behind the work. For instance,Deep in Thought is a work that is inspired by day-to-day life and situations, and depicts a person in deep thought, surrounded by umpteen options and choices. I draw and paint what I experience and articulate in reaction to simple things, she says. And Im an artist because my mother inspired me to be one, says Kaur, who believes in questioning the boundaries and limits of a medium and the form, and that is reflected in the 16 works put on display.
The exhibition is on at Girl In The Cafe,Sector 17,Chandigarh till March 31.
Art In The Cafe: The newly-painted walls of the Books N Brew Cafe in Sector 16 boast of artwork that reflect the young spirit of the place. The art and photography exhibition by upcoming artists Raoul Lornie and Mojib Mirzaei have been created at leisure, with Mojib choosing to display a couple of self-portraits,a few conceptual paintings like a bare tree, the outsider an elephant in the wilderness and also some eclectic artwork on glass bottles.
Lornie has displayed some 20 photographs which take the viewer many places,as they chronicle his travels and experiences in the past couple of years. There are many photographs in black and white where Lornie captures trees with bare branches, one which reflects its age with grandeur, and one which happily sways with the wind.
The exhibition is on at Books N Brew,Sector 16,Chandigarh till March 25.
