Alankar Theatre’s new production Parsai Ki Duniya, written by Hari Shankar Parsai, opened at Punjab Kala Bhawan this week. The shows will be staged on a regular basis in the city. The play surrounds the story of Vaishno,a typical Brahman who earns money illegally and opens a hotel where only Vaishnav food is served. To earn more money,he sells non-vegetarian food, hard drinks and then runs a prostitution racket. The plot focuses on an acute criticism of the way capitalists operate their business. “The common Man is a silent observer. He is helpless and just watches the political drama of today. When the people need food, our politicians are speaking of phone connectivity; malls, metro projects,India and Pakistan cricket matches. It’s disillusioning to see the common man keep a finger on his lips, but as an artist,it’s our responsibility to raise these issues,” reflects Chakresh Kumar, the director of the play.
