There’s no great philosophy that guides Pardeep Vermas strokes. The banker-turned-artist just loves to put his brush on canvas and create strokes that reflect his passion for art. Working on huge canvases,on glossy paper with acrylics as his medium,Verma creates three-dimensional images that have textures which give his paintings the look of photographs. Its tough to work on glossy paper and in such huge sizes, but I leave it to the viewers to perceive what they see on canvas. The concept is 3D, says Verma.
Working essentially with orange, yellow, blue and black, most of his works appear as rocky terrains, each emitting hues which have a shine. Its an intricate pattern, with varying depths that Verma has created in his 56 works that took him over four years to complete. The few black-and-white paintings appear sometimes as rays of light breaking from the confines of earth, while some works form a pattern thats multi-layered in both physical and metaphysical aspects,at times even magical. Each work, when seen closely,is a combination of various elements, put together in a dramatic visual format, one that is both detailed and has a unique effect. For my next exhibition,I hope to add some images to this technique and create something fresh, says Verma.
The exhibition is on at Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16,till August 24.
