Stop making Maggi noodles
Repeated requests of a lawyer in the high court to hear his argument for two minutes stretched to over fifteen minutes. Each time the bench was about to dismiss his case, the lawyer would demand for another two minutes and go beyond the time. Irked, the judge remarked Will you stop making Maggi noodles? The lawyer seemed to have forgotten that that Bench had other dishes (cases) to taste as well!
Heard that one before!
Bhupinder Singh Hooda is in his sixth year in the Haryana Chief Ministers office. His replies to certain questions havent changed in these years. It appears he has template answers ready on these issues whenever reporters question him. For example, whenever he is asked about the separate SGPC for Haryana,a body earlier promised by him during the election, his fixed reply is,Legal opinion is being sought. The reply is same as it was in his previous term as the chief minister. If the CM himself was so unsure about the issue that he balks talking about it,one fails to understand why did he raise it in the first place.
Fitness freak
Not long ago,a smart training program had exhorted personnel of the Punjab police to participate in bhangra. The idea was that it would enable the corpulent cops to shed off the extra adipose tissue around their waists. Whether our cops found gyrating to dhol beats any useful exercise or not remains unknown, but Punjabs top administrative officers are certainly walking that extra mile (literally) to keep themselves fit. Many of them can be seen walking or jogging by the lake early morning or late evening. The more trendy of the tribe are seen doing rounds of elite gymnasiums of the city, while the slow and aging follows Mark Twains not-so-favourite sport - golf. The American author found the sport as good walk spoilt.
New look
In the recent two-day party meeting of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD),party President Sukhbir Badal came nattily dressed in denims and sports jacket. Sukhbirs sartorial elegance was finely complemented by the snacks at offer. Diet Pepsi, imported juices and fine chocolates were provided and everyone seemed to enjoy it,even those who professed that they had diabetes.
Firsts among equals
The idea of Police Commissioner system in Punjab goes back to the days of Beant Singh government. It took almost two decades for it to reach fruition. Now,speculation are rife in the state police headquarters as to which officers would be the first three police commissioners deputed under this new system.
Holiday-happy government
Punjab Civil Secretariat grossly requires a work culture. On Thursday, the state government was considering a half-day holiday to enable employees to take part in the nagar kirtan procession. But much before the orders were issued,a majority of the staff left offices. By around 1 pm,most of the staff in branches had packed bags. None waited for the official confirmation.
