If one snapshot acquaints you with the serene blue water of Sukhna Lake, another takes you to the filth laden parks in village Kajheri. Like any other small town in India,Chandigarh is a city of contrasts, where the towering and sprawling five-star hotels share space with the cramped environs of the slum dwellers. A photo exhibition titled,‘Chandigarh – The City of Contrasts’ by students of interior design of Raffles Millennium International, brings out such interesting facets of the city through a collection of 400 images. The attempt by the aspiring photographers which includes Anchal Sachdeva,Charu Gupta,Harjet Kaur Gill and Harleen Kaur,is to understand the city, its architecture and greenery.

The images focus on Le Corbusier’s work, important buildings of the city, monuments and also documents the transition in the city over a period of time. In one frame,Sachdeva captures the chaos on the streets by showing a car driving on the wrong side and disrupting traffic for 30-minutes. Another shows as to how the residents of the city have reduced the beauty of the city, which can be seen in images of littered corridors in Sector 17,parks converted into a parking lots and open manholes. Under the guidance of Maija Berzina, head of interior design of the institute, students have also created a futuristic flat done in red, orange and brown.

The exhibition is on at Raffles Millennium International,Sector 25,till July 15.
