Cholera-infested Hallomajra still far from hygiene factor

Even as the frequency of waterborne diseases reported from slums and colonies across the city increases by the day, these areas continue to score poorly on the hygiene scale.

Even as the frequency of waterborne diseases reported from slums and colonies across the city increases by the day, these areas continue to score poorly on the hygiene scale.

At Hallomajra, the proximity of sewerage lines to water supply lines often leads to contamination of water.

And with open drains in the area being littered with polythene bags and other such material, the sewerage lines, laid several years ago,get choked.

Area councillor Ram Lal says that despite his writing several letters to the authorities concerned,no action has been taken. “The work for laying storm-water drainage began over a year ago,but the project is still to be completed. Another project worth Rs 3.5 crore was sanctioned for upgrading the water supply system. Nothing, however, has been done,” says Lal.

The civic body officials, however, maintain that water samples taken from the area have passed the purity tests.
